This book narrates the story of the setting – Villa Medici – and the illustrious institution it houses, the French Academy in Rome. Texts by its director Muriel Mayette-Holtz and by Jérôme Delaplanche and Cristiano Leone delve into and explore the visitor route, with a focus on the Institution’s past and present. The numerous and new illustrations, produced after the completion of major restoration works on the Villa, reveal new details for the first time – from Balthus’ walls in the sumptuous vestibule to the precious bas-reliefs on the facade.
