[Scenes of memory / Rome in photography 1850-1890] In collaboration with the Cabinet of the Mayor of Rome, this volume offers a photographic itinerary, a virtual voyage back in time, in memory and history, to the Rome of the late 1800s. The book offers 126 images from the Historical Archives of Palazzo Braschi. Each image is accompanied by comments and poetic reflections by great travelers of the past, including D’Annunzio, Hawthorne, Matilde Serao, Emile Zola, Gogol, Dickens, Pirandello. The photographs are divided into sections, reflecting the particular characteristics and special aspects of the city: the Capitoline, Ancient Rome, the basilicas, the places of the city (palaces, fountains and squares), history and social life, the Tiber, villas and gardens, the suburbs. The book also contains biographical notes on the photographers and technical information on the pictures.
