The new catalogue for "Une", a series of exhibitions dedicated to contemporary female artists hosted at Villa Medici, Académie de France à Rome, covers an exhibition held at Villa Medici from 4th May to 2nd July 2017 featuring famous artists Yoko Ono and Claire Tabouret.

Yoko Ono and Claire Tabouret’s art works together like a musical counterpoint filling the air of Villa Medici’s beautiful Loggia and gardens. After a remarkable exhibition at the MoMa in 2015, Yoko Ono arrives in Rome and, with her natural zest, reminds us that art is first and foremost a gesture, an intangible element, a mere moment in the vital impetus. Her creations are accompanied by simple words and short, clear captions, allowing visitors a different perception of their surroundings and the time taken to explore them. By contrast Claire Tabouret’s paintings, created specifically for Villa Medici, depict interior landscapes dominated by the twin themes of power and folly. Yoko Ono and Claire Tabouret’s exhibitions are both contemplative and absorbing, offering a different take on the world’s history and questioning the concept of “self, community and our relationships with others”.
This publication is part of a series for people who want to learn more about female contemporary artists, with superb illustrations and evocative writing.
