A book on the Chapel of the Princes of San Lorenzo, the mausoleum built as a monument to the greatness of the Medici.

[The Chapel of the Princes and semiprecious stones in Florence] This book is on the Chapel of the Princes of San Lorenzo. This mausoleum, with its enormous cupola and sumptuous interior, was built as a monument to the greatness of the Medici. The gaudy space conceived to host the tombs of the Grand Dukes is completely decorated with semiprecious stones and marble, mostly imported from abroad. The inlay work took over three centuries to complete, due to difficulties in obtaining materials, and also to the very high cost of the project.
With a detailed range of fine illustrations, this volume brings out all the vivid color of the panels, coats-of-arms, vases, tombstones, details of the inlays and decorations, and the stupendous base running along the entire wall. Also: a catalogue of the works indicating their origin, history and techniques. Bibliography, index of names and of the 336 illustrations.
