The art and archaeological collections of the Farnese family: masterpieces collected during the course of two centuries of history.

[The Farnese / Art and collecting] During the course of two centuries, from the papacy of Paul III to 1662, the Farnese family assembled one of the most important collections of art and archaeological finds of the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Masterpieces by artists like Raphael, El Greco, Correggio, Parmigianino, Titian, and very precious antique objects were used to adorn the estates of the family in Parma, Piacenza, Caprarola and Rome. The catalogue of the exhibition held in Colorno and Naples in 1995, curated by a prestigious committee of experts, features fine critical essays illustrating this exceptional heritage, offering readers the chance to appreciate the very high quality of the collections through a sort of “visual narrative”.
