Giuseppe Zigaina: the artistic and existential research of one of the most original painters of our time.

“Zigaina exorcised reality, always agreeing, conceding, assenting, smiling: but because it would be impossible to do this with all reality, he first reduced its quantity, like a ‘physical theater’ of his action: thus we have just Lower Friuli and the lagoon”. This is how Pier Paolo Pasolini defined the dramatic relationship between Zigaina and reality, and his contradictory link to his homeland: a place of idyllic peace and mysterious pain. Great importance is also assumed by the complex introspection of the artist, the definition of his own personality in his difficult relationship with his father. The works presented in this volume – paintings and drawings seen in the exhibition at Museo Revoltella in Trieste, often from private collections – document the artistic and existential research of one of the most original painters of our time.
