A spectacular journey into the world of Giancarlo De Carlo, a consistent, restless, and at times even tiresome “outsider” architect with a strong, complex and multifaceted personality, undertaken through writings, projects and sketches.
The richly illustrated volume includes comments by eminent peers such as Renzo Piano, and by Massimo Cacciari. The catalogue mirrors the layout of the exhibition which, as well as featuring drawings and documents from the De Carlo Archive, illustrates the intense network of relations, the environments and the stories that revolved around this architect. Here, his most recent works are presented, such as the residential project in Beirut on show for the first time, together with the earlier town-planning and university projects in Urbino that firmly established him in his field.
The visitor is able to immerse himself in De Carlo’s world by choosing one of the thematic itineraries devoted to each aspect of his career: Abitare/Housing, Tra città e territorio/Between the city and its territory, Laboratorio Urbino/Urbino workshop, Misurarsi con la storia/Confronting History, Geometrie complesse e segni urbani/Complex geometries and urban signs, Progettare luoghi pubblici/Designing public places.
