A fundamental presence in the debate on Italian architectural history in the 20th century.
[Adalberto Libera.
Complete works] Libera’s participation in Gruppo 7 and involvement with the MIAR, along with commissions for important works, place him in the ambiguous context of Italian experimentation in the third and fourth decades of the 20th century. Nevertheless, his position is also marked by a fundamental interdisciplinary approach, evident in the complex Palazzo dei Congressi, where he designed walls “constructed” as mosaics, while the Mediterranean-purist synthesis of Villa Malaparte reflects his compositional bent for metaphysical suspensions and the symbolic revitalization of classical mythology.
This volume intentionally underlines the connection between architecture and the figurative arts, bringing out the character of absolute essentiality in Libera’s theoretical-poetic vision, in a step by step investigation of the creative process in all its relations with the cultural dynamics of the 20th century and postwar era.
