With respect to the usual subdivision of the discipline in painting, sculpture and architecture, here the focus is on the expressive homogeneity of cultural currents and centers, also providing the elements of historical contextualization useful for the comprehension of artistic phenomena. Ample space is also devoted to the use of images as a constant accompaniment to the analysis of the works: the iconography functions almost as another “text”, to read and understand parallel to the written word.
