Bernardo Strozzi, one of the most famous Genoese painters of the 17th century, and his prolific, very successful activity in Genoa and Venice.

Genoa and Venice, in 1995, were the sites of a major retrospective on Bernardo Strozzi, one of the most famous Genoese painters of the 17th century. First in Genoa and then in Venice, Strozzi made paintings of great success and charm. Works with religious subjects, but also intense worldly compositions for clients attracted by the quality and newness of his style. He created major public works, especially altarpieces, and works for private situations, like the Venetian portraits and large frescoes. The catalogue examines about eighty works from Italian and foreign collections, in which the artist reveals his familiarity with the painting of the school of Caravaggio and Rubens.
