The history of the extraordinary garden the Farnese planted on the Palatine: the original layout, the modifications, the transformations.

[The Farnese Gardens] The guide retraces the history of the extraordinary garden the Farnese planted on the Palatine, the noble hill of the origins of Rome, place of the sacred memory of Romulus and the emperors. It also tells the story of the Palatine itself, starting with the fall of the Roman Empire and the advent of the dark centuries that brought decay and abandon, all the way to the rebirth, with the creation of splendid gardens by Alessandro Farnese in the mid-1500s. The organization of the gardens, which have been profoundly transformed over the centuries, is documented in a fine selection of drawings and etchings, along with descriptions of the monuments and sculptures, some of which are now found in the museums of the city, while others remain at the gardens today.
