A fundamental, subversive exponent of Modernism: the most fertile point of reference for entire generations of architects.
The monograph on Le Corbusier retraces the most important phases of the career of the great architect: the years of training at La Chaux-de-Fonds, the project for the new capital of the Punjab, Chandigarh, the definition of the principles of the “unité d’habitation” of Marseilles, the construction of Villa Savoye in Poissy, of the chapel of Ronchamp and the convent of La Tourette. In sixty years of uninterrupted activity, the French architect produced work that became an essential part of the history of Modernism, balancing excessive abstraction with his endless creative imagination, both in technical terms, with the use of materials like glass and iron, and in typological and formal terms.
The volume, reprinted with new graphic design – the first edition dates back to 1993 – contains a listing of all the works and a spectacular selection of images from the Fondation Le Corbusier: drawings, sketches, projects, photographs, many of which have never before been published.
