[Menander. The house of Menander at Pompeii]. The house of Menander, excavated in 1926-32, is one of the most famous finds of Pompeii. With an area of about 1830 square meters, it occupies 55% of the block where it is situated. It has a great many rooms, equipped for different aspects of the private and social life of its owner, its inhabitants and all those who for various reasons spent time there. Today it is once again open to the public, after a complex restoration project that involved the wall structures, the splendid mosaics, stuccowork and murals. This book is a complete monograph published for the occasion of the restoration, analyzing all the facets of the house, investigating the history of the excavation and the lives of the victims of the volcanic eruption. The richly illustrated volume shows the most important of the 118 objects found at the site, classifying them by type and function.
