[From Giotto to Malevich. The Reciprocal Wonder] The increasingly frequent cultural exchanges between Italy and Russia in recent years, resulted in a reciprocal commitment to stage an exhibition devoted to the artistic relations between the two countries, from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.
The underlying concept of the exhibition is the systematic comparison of these two figurative cultures through the centuries. The various itineraries, now characterized by extreme similarities and now by profound differences, and the many masterpieces lent by leading museums in both countries, which can be compared here directly for the first time, make this a compelling exhibition. Essays by eminent art and architecture historians enrich the catalogue that documents, with detailed descriptions and quality images, works ranging from the treasures of Byzantium to the celebrated icons held by Russian state museums, from the Italian masters Bellini, Paolo Uccello and Brunelleschi to the protagonists of twentieth-century art.
This is a unique opportunity to visit an ideal museum filled with masterpieces that are so ‘close’!
