A great retrospective of one of the most important Italian pop artists, in close collaboration with the Archivio Mario Schifano, the only body permitted to protect and administer the image and work of the master.
The exhibition envisages the presentation of some one hundred works from the 1960s to the 1990s, with large monochromes on wrapping paper glued to canvas with the use of isolated numbers or letters (No, 1960), under the influence of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, the series devoted to advertising brands or nature (Elemento per un grande paesaggio, 1962, O sole mio, 1963, Estate, 1965). In the 1970s the artist began to explore the use of new techniques, first in television, then computer-generated, reproducing the images on emulsioned canvases (Tutti morti, 1970, Orto botanico, 1971). From that time on he never ceased to exploit the mass media in his works (Musa ausiliaria, 1996, Fibre ottiche, 1996).
