Key exhibition for the centenary of the sculptor's birth. This exhibition held in two venues focuses on the unique figure of Giacomo Manzù.
The GAMeC in Bergamo, in collaboration with the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, is hosting an exhibition of Giacomo Manzù’s works to honour the centenary of his birth. The museum in Bergamo chose to focus, through 60 works from public and private collections, on his middle period, which was distinguished for the way he reworked iconographic images, and for its fine plastic qualities. The exhibition starts with the Crocifissioni series (1938-1942) and touches on the themes most dear to the artist. Innovative iconographic choices made in the Cardinali, the meeting with Pope John Paul XXIII and the Porta della Morte for St Peter’s Basilica were all major artistic milestones for Manzù.
