Beyond the confines of the exhibition, a bird's eye look at Basilicata's Art in Transit project.

The Basilicata Regional Council are only too aware of the need for a region to establish a clearly-defined identity, able to mark it out from its competitors on a national or regional level. And with this necessity in mind, it has invested heavily in culture, determined to use creativity as a tool for fostering development. The Art in Transit project described in this volume was launched in Potenza in 2009, in collaboration with International Art Encounters and the Basilicata 1799 association. It has sponsored a series of seminars with leading exponents of Italian and European culture, training courses, public entertainment events and, above all, four site specific works by well-known international artists (Daniel Buren, Michele Iodice, Bianco-Valente and Studio Azzurro), who have all interpreted the townscape from its outskirts to the historic city centre offering a fresh look at a familiar landscape.
In 2008 the Itinera project rediscovered two little-known treasures of the province, the Castelmezzano Dolomites and the ruins of Campomaggiore, through the eyes of Giancarlo Neri and Remo Salvadori.

The volume also hosts contributions from the curators of the project, Brunella Buscicchio Scherer, Giuseppe Biscaglia and Francesco Scaringi as well as Achille Bonito Oliva and Graziella Lonardi Buontempo.
