A little-known period of italian art is finally documented in all its richness. The book illustrates all the artworks on display in the new museum just opened, in Naples.

To mark the opening of the new museum at Sant’Elmo Castle, dedicated to Neapolitan 20th-century art, Electa is publishing the comprehensive catalogue of its collections: paintings, sculptures and graphic experiments form a nucleus of 170 artworks executed by about 90 Neapolitan artists and others who marked the city’s cultural scenario by their presence. The book presents a selection of articles which illustrate the artistic matrices of the movements which animated the century, reflecting the various sections of the museum layout, from the breakaway movement known as the Secessione dei ventitre (Secession of the 23, 1909) to the experimentation of the 1980s, passing via Futurism, the Gruppo Sud of the 1940s, the MAC, the Informal movement, and Gruppo ’58. In the detailed sections about the artists and the artworks (all reproduced in large color photographs), the catalogue illustrates the enormous artistic vitality of Naples.
