The notebook looks at some new museums, both in Italy and abroad, focusing on the designers and how they have approached the subject, and compares their experience with regard to RISO (the Palermo Museum of Contemporary Art) in the particular context of Sicily.
The new edition of the RISO notebooks concentrates on ‘Making Museums’ and considers how one actually goes about creating a museum, a highly topical and complex matter. The series has some new structural features. The “Altro Altrove” column will be permanently enhanced by Pier Paolo Pancotto, who will conduct interviews with artists of international standing; in this particular edition, Miltos Manetas (born in Athens in 1964), of Greek origin and active in London and Italy. Furthermore, whereas the first four editions of the column “www… who.what.where” were curated by Helga Marsala, Laura Barreca will be taking over and, in the next four editions, will be examining environments for the ‘Conservation of the Immaterial’: New Media Art. Fifth volume of the series. The notebook looks at some new museums, both in Italy and abroad, focusing on the designers and how they have approached the subject, and compares their experience with RISO in the particular context of Sicily. The latest notebook will give a general description of the theoretical sphere of New Media Art, together with a brief international history of the genre, through the standpoints of the institutional protagonists, artists, curators and conservators involved.
